  Coupling agents:  
  
Coupling agent are used to provide a stable bonding force between  
two nonbonding or incompatible objects. In filled or reinforced  
compound, it will improve the bonding force between inorganic  
component (fiber, fillers) with the organic matrix (organic resin  
or compound) to result in a greater composite strength and  
longer/stable service life.   
  
A. Silane coupling agents 
  
Silane coupling agent is the most popular and widely used  
coupling system in most of the composite and compound  
applications. Especially on the fillers or reinforce compound  
that contain silica element like-glass fiber, mica, silica powder 
or fume silica. It??s low viscosity and surface energy will enable  
them easy to adhere on the inorganic surface and cause good  
wetting effect on the surface. The major application of Silane  
coupling agents are:

B. Titanate coupling agents 
  
In addition to Silane coupling agents, Titanate coupling agent  
are widely used in the compound of thermal set, thermal plastics 
and rubber system. When applying on the  surface of the fillers, 
Titanate coupling agents will improve the workability of the  
compound processing(lower the viscosity) improve the filler/ 
pigment dispersion ; Enhance the mechanical properties and  
also will save cost by raise the dosage of fillers, which is contribute  
by the raise of wetting effect between filler and resin.   
  
This coupling system plays an important role on the compound  
system like plastics master batch, color paste, coating and inks. 
  
To sum up, the benefit of using Titanate coupling agents are:  
  
a.      Increase the dosage of filler in the compound and save cost.  
b.      Reduce the compound viscosity during processing 
c.       Increase the workability during processing.  
d.      Increase the pigment dispersion.. 
e.      Increase the anti-corrosive properties of the coating compound.

D. Zirconated coupling agents 
  
Zirconated coupling agent not only perform as the coupler  
between organic and inorganic materials, but also will  
perform as the surface modifier, which will reduce the  
interaction within the compound, so will reduce the  
compound viscosity drastically, this property will not

the resin, but also will save cost by increase the filler
